Why is Falling in Love with Yourself Important?

Falling in love

Since we are called The "UGLY" Company, we find this post really appropriate. What does "UGLY" means?

It means "U Got to Love Yourself" - But why is it important?

Falling in love

When you fall in love with yourself, you gain a deep appreciation of your own worth and capabilities. Falling in love with yourself also means that you genuinely like yourself, and you enjoy spending time alone.

When you put yourself first, you make choices that will only improve your quality of life. You eat better, sleep and exercise more because you realize that taking care of your mental and physical well-being are essential to your success. When you look better you feel better, and when you feel better, you do better.

Why is self-love not selfish?

We often confuse self-love with selfish disregard for others, but self-love is not selfish; in fact it is enriched with caring for others. It is a unique way of saying “hey, I would like to love myself first, so I can love you more.”

Is it true that to love someone we must love yourself first?

Loving yourself certainly makes it easier to love someone else. When you accept and love yourself, you don't need someone else's approval or love, and you become more secure in yourself. Thus, you are likely to find someone who you will love, and be able to give love in that relationship.

5 Ways to Love Yourself

1) Cast out the idea that you have to be perfect

The perfect body, perfect career, perfect kids and perfect life. Society tells us who we should be, but in Reality, no one is ever going to be perfect. The good news is, you are already perfect, in your imperfection. Don’t compare yourself or your life to that unrealistic standard, it only leads to self hate and depression.

2) Embrace the fact that you can’t control everyone and everything

Life isn’t about trying to control everything, it is about how you react to it. Instead of trying to control everything and everyone, do the best you can do and leave it. Everything will work out eventually.

3) Live in the moment

Take a moment to stop the endless pursuit and just look into yourself. See where you have come from and appreciate the beauty of the moment. Appreciate that you are alive - living, breathing, functioning human being and how much of a luxury that is.

4) Live a life of Gratitude

A grateful heart is the key to happiness. Spend time thinking of all the things you are grateful for - your body, your life, your situation, your family, the food you just ate etc. Start to list them down on your social media, blog, or simply keep them in your phone. When we feel entitled, we lost gratitude.
Change that, show gratitude everyday, even for the tiniest thing, and you will find yourself happier.

5) Self-care

Self-care is so important. It literally means taking care of yourself. It isn’t just about getting a massage. It is any action you take to preserve and improve your health, wellness, happiness and fulfillment. Just like the saying goes: “You can’t pour from an empty cup” - You cannot take care of others if you do not take care of yourself first.
Groom yourself, and spend time with yourself, checking-in with your emotions, your physical well-being and also your thoughts, and make changes to them if you find anything not in line with what you ultimately want. Remember, you need to care for yourself today, so that you can care for others later.
